| About the Breed:
The Morgan Horse- A breed originating in Vermont. At Wild Wood Sleigh and Carriage we raise purebred Morgan Horses. The Morgan horse has a strong, long tradition of being a durable, courageous, willing, people loving horse. The Morgan horse breed originated in the late 1790's with a smallish colt named Little Bub. Little Bub was given to a school teacher from the Green Mountain country of Vermont as partial repayment for money loaned to a former neighbor from Springfield Massachusetts. Though Little Bub started out "pint sized" he grew to known as the fastest walker, trotter, and runner in Vermont. Little Bub also excelled at harness work pulling logs, wagons, and other equipment used during the pioneer years of early Vermont. As his fame spread from each of his test of strength and speed he became known as "Morgan's Colt". After the passing of his owner, Little Bub was given his owner's name and became known as "Justin Morgan". After over 200 years of breeding our Morgan horses show us that same ability and devotion as Justin Morgan himself. To learn more about the Morgan Horse breed hit the link below and connect to the American Morgan Horse Association website. Also check out a book called "Justin Morgan Had A Horse" by Marguerite Henry as well as a Walt Disney movie by the same name that is based on Marguerite's book.
